Letâs shape the future of wealth management together. Valuation Control is part of Product Control which is focused on the trading and treasury activities of Julius Baer. Independent compilations of profit and loss figures allow for a transparent and save business environment ensuring accurate financial reporting. Front to back reconciliations of positions, cash accounts and profit and loss statements ensure data integrity across systems. Valuation Control collaborates with Finance, Risk, and Front Office functions to support transparent financial reporting and meets regulatory and audit obligations. Operating independently, Valuation Control provides a crucial second-line-of-defence oversight to safeguard the reliability of the Bankâs financial statements. Its function ensures the accuracy and integrity of fair value measurements for financial instruments, primarily under IFRS 13 requirements. It performs independent price verification, identifying and resolving discrepancies. The team oversees the classification of instruments within the fair value hierarchy (Levels 1â3) and monitors the use of pricing models, especially for illiquid or complex products. Moreover, Valuation Control is responsible for the calculation of various additional valuation adjustments under Prudent Valuation regulations. As such the team ensures a robust valuation governance framework to enhance the credibility and reliability of financial reporting by reflecting realistic market conditions, thereby strengthening investor confidence, supporting regulatory compliance, and mitigating the risk of future losses or restatements. The ideal candidate will be an experienced valuation control professional with strong technical knowledge of financial instruments, valuation methods, and regulatory requirements. They must be proactive, analytical, and capable of challenging valuations, driving improvements, and supporting governance. Proficiency in Python, Dataiku, or similar tools is highly desirable. YOUR CHALLENGE The role of Valuation Control includes: Support the Head of Valuation Control in the day-to-day execution and continuous enhancement of the Bankâs valuation control framework Take ownership of key valuation control and prudent valuation adjustment (PVA) workstreams, including analysis, reporting, documentation, and resolution of valuation issues Conduct and support independent price verification (IPV), valuation adjustment reviews, fair value controls, and assessments of valuation uncertainty Analyse valuation differences, price testing outcomes, model or input limitations, data quality concerns, and key drivers of valuation adjustments Collaborate closely with Product Control, Front Office, Market Risk, Model Risk, Finance, Regulatory Reporting, and Technology to ensure robust valuation governance Prepare and present valuation control and PVA materials for management meetings, valuation committees, audit engagements, and regulatory discussions Support the development and maintenance of methodology documentation, control design, operating procedures, and governance standards Contribute to process improvement initiatives, automation efforts, and control enhancements across valuation control activities Utilise Python, Dataiku, or similar tools to strengthen data analysis, streamline reporting, and improve control efficiency Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for valuation control, PVA, and valuation uncertainty matters within the team YOUR PROFILE University degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field Solid experience in Valuation (Risk) Control, IPV, PVA, Market Risk, or a comparable banking control role (3+ years) Good technical knowledge of valuation control, independent price verification (IPV), fair value governance, valuation adjustments (PVA), and valuation uncertainty Hands-on experience with prudent valuation frameworks and adjustment methodologies Strong understanding of financial instruments including fixed income, rates, credit, FX, derivatives, structured products, and treasury instruments Able to review and challenge valuation models, pricing inputs, assumptions, discrepancies, and control outputs Strong analytical skills with proficiency in interpreting financial data, identifying issues, and communicating findings clearly Experience preparing reports and presentations for senior management, valuation committees, audit, and regulators Proficient in Python, Dataiku, SQL, Tableau, or similar tools for data analysis and visualisationâhighly valued Capable of contributing to process optimisation and automation initiatives within a controlled environment Effective communicator with strong stakeholder management skills across Risk, Finance, Front Office, Technology, and Control functions Meticulous attention to detail, strong ownership, and ability to deliver under audit, regulatory, and senior management scrutiny Business fluency in English required, German or other languages an advantage We are looking forward to receiving your full job application through our online application tool.
