Senior Python Engineer

Every trading application faces the challenge of staying reliable under real-time demands and constant change. The Senior Python Engineer role in Zurich is part of a managed application services project covering production operations and change delivery across six application domains. The IT Commando team works where technical excellence and hands-on support meet, designing and supporting mission-critical trading applications. You decide how production issues are resolved and recurring tasks are automated, shaping the way business users interact with their tools. The person in this role makes it possible for trading operations to keep moving without interruption. Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain applications that meet business requirements Support existing applications in production and proactively propose solutions to streamline and improve them Advise and support business users who develop their own tools, sharing expertise and promoting engineering best practices Provide 1st/2nd-level support for business-critical applications; take the harder cases and escalate with full context Analyse data and issues with Python (Pandas) and SQL Design scripts and small tools for checks, data handling and automation Perform Linux and AWS operations; contribute to CI/CD Record work in Jira and keep runbooks current Guide the less experienced Commando and take on additional applications and support scope as the managed service ramps up Requirements Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent Strong Python (5+ yrs) with hands-on experience using Pandas Good knowledge of Excel and Excel VBA Solid software engineering background and SQL (writing and optimizing queries) Hands-on experience in 1st or 2nd-level support of business-critical applications Experience administering Linux environments Full-stack development experience Exposure to FinTech or trading environments is advantage Fluent English language knowledge Nice to have Also valued: Java, Bash scripting, C#/.NET, Outlook VBA, UI development, NoSQL databases, CI/CD Experience with Azure/AWS/GCP Exposure to FinTech or trading environments is an advantage French and/or German language skills
